YASUKO WAKAI
NOVEMBER 30, 1930 - MAY 10, 2017

Yasuko (Mary) Wakai, age 86, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Medical Center on May 10th following a 18 month battle with cancer. She was born in Los Angeles, CA to the late Hikota and Kazuko Shibata. She is survived by daughters, Karen Ritzman (Ken) and Susan Wakai; son Craig Wakai; grandsons Eric and Michael Ritzman; brothers, Haruo Shibata and Seiji Shibata (Sandra) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Charles and beloved son Stephen.

Yasuko (Mary) Wakai, age 86, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Medical Center on May 10th following a 18 month battle with cancer. She was born in Los Angeles, CA to the late Hikota and Kazuko Shibata. She is survived by daughters, Karen Ritzman (Ken) and Susan Wakai; son Craig Wakai; grandsons Eric and Michael Ritzman; brothers, Haruo Shibata and Seiji Shibata (Sandra) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Charles and beloved son Stephen.

Yasuko moved with the family from Los Angeles to Roy, Utah following the start of World War II. After the war, the family moved to Stockton, CA. She graduated from Stockton High School, Class of 1949. Following her marriage to Charles, she was busy raising her four children. She became an active PTA member during her childrens' school years and received a honorary PTA life membership.

After, Yasuko worked for over 25 years at A-1 Cleaners where she became acquainted with and waited on their many customers. Following the passing of husband Charles and her retirement, Yasuko remained busy volunteering her time to the many activities and organizations of the Stockton Buddhist Temple.

A memorial service for Yasuko will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Stockton Buddhist Temple, 2820 Shimizu Drive, Stockton CA 95203. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stockton Buddhist Temple or the American
Cancer Society.
